2019 Will's Cabin Vineyard Pinot Noir
From our Gist Ranch Estate, 2,300 feet in elevation, this bottling showcases mountain Pinot Noir with aromatic red fruit and a wild forest spice character.
Vineyard
Will’s Cabin Vineyard is less than half a mile from the Gist Ranch Estate. The vineyard sits on fine, sandy soil known as vaqueros sandstone. It is also north facing and 200 feet higher, making it much cooler than Gist Ranch. Here we have planted swan and Mount Eden clones. Uniquely, we’ve also incorporated Mariafeld, a clone originating in Switzerland, which tends to add more tannin and a deeper color to the wine. This clone is used to create a Pinot Noir named after the vineyard as well as our Rosalee rosé of Pinot Noir.
Winemaker Notes
The 2019 vintage will go down as a classic year in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Unsettled weather in the spring resulted in poor flowering, and lower yields in some blocks. The summer was warm, but not oppressive. The lack of extreme heat events was a welcome change. Harvest began in mid-September, finishing up in mid to late October. The wines are concentrated with a fine balance of structure and fruit intensity. Site expression seems amplified; low yields and moderate temperatures often lead to some of our most singular and terroir driven wines.

Other Notes
The 2019 Pinot Noir Will's Cabin Vineyard is one of the most aromatic wines in the range. Crushed rose petal, mint, white pepper, chalk and crushed raspberry are all nicely lifted. Gracious and inviting, the 2019 is easy to enjoy, even in the early going. - 92 points. Antonio Galloni, Vinous
