2017 Walker's Vineyard Nebbiolo
The wine reveals notes of strawberries, licorice and dried savory herbs. On the palate, the wine is ample, with the chewy tannins, juicy acids and a ripe, firm finish.
Vineyard
We farm two Nebbiolo at two dramatically different sites. Our newest planting at Gist Ranch is just over an acre situated on heavily fractured Vacqueros Sandstone. High in elevation and mostly above the fog, this site consistently ripens this fickly variety and is the backbone our Nebbiolo wines. Our Winery Estate Nebbiolo is sourced from a small 0.3 acre hillside perched just above the Rapley Trail Vineyard.
Winemaker Notes
Record setting rain replenished our dry soils after 4 continuous years of drought. Yet, it was also another year of record setting heat with an exceptionally torrid Labor Day weekend. Spring was mild, allowing us to pick the best crop we’ve seen since 2012. This was a vintage of good yields and great quality.

Other Notes
Though a bit shy on opening, this wine grows more interesting day after day, ensuring a long life. Aromas of red plum, hibiscus and wood spice kick off the nose while the palate pops with young flavors of fresh berry and white pepper. The aggressive tannic streak steadily mellows with air. Drink 2023–2042.
