2017 Estate Chardonnay
Our Estate Chardonnay showcases orchard fruits and brioche-scented aromas and flavors. It’s rounded, nicely textured, and balanced.
Our 2017 Estate Chardonnay is entirely from our winery estate vineyards: 73% from the Langley Hill Vineyard, 19% from the Damiana Vineyard and 8% Portola Springs Vineyard.
Record setting rains replenished our thirsty soils and gave our old vines a much needed reprieve from four drought stressed seasons. The 2017 vintage was another year of record setting heat, continuing our string of record setting temperatures. Luckily, Spring was mild and allowed us to set the best crop we have seen since 2012. A torrid heat spike over the labor day started the growing season with a bang and had us off and running at sprinter’s pace. The weather following was mild and allowed for the latest harvest we have seen in some time. It will go down as a vintage with good yields and potentially great quality.
The 2017 Chardonnay was aged a year in 20% new French oak barrels and an additional six months in stainless steel. It opens to aromas of toast and baklava—pistachio, honey and pastry—with notes of oats, Golden Delicious apple and baked quince. The palate is medium-bodied, rounded and savory, lifted by citrusy accents and tangy acidity, finishing long, savory and textured. Yum!
