2021 Mindego Ridge Vineyard Chardonnay
Vineyard
Mindego Ridge Vineyard, owned and farmed by David and Stacey Gollnick, is located at the western end of Alpine Road. near the town of La Honda. It is a perfectly exposed south facing hillside in a very cool spot. The clay loam over shale soils produces wines of great intensity.
Tasting Notes
Delicate aromas of pear and peach meet with crushed granite and chalk on the nose of this bottling from atop the mountains. The clay-like mineral tones are subtle on the palate, giving a backdrop to the brisk melon peel and damp herb flavors. — Matt Kettmann
Winemaker Notes
The 2021 vintage was a welcome change from the catastrophe of 2020, which saw devastating fires throughout the region. Sugar and acidity levels tracked well and while crop size was shorter than we would prefer, we were able to harvest perfectly ripened fruit at a reasonable pace. The resulting wines have excellent balance and intensity. In comparison to our most recent vintages, there are some similarities to 2019 in that the wines possess great elegance and site specificity.
