2021 Langley Hill Vineyard Chardonnay

Langley Hill Vineyard is our largest estate Chardonnay. Planted in 1979-1980, this 5.25-acre vineyard occupies a steep hillside with numerous exposures and soil depths. This complex arrangement leads to slower and varied ripening, requiring multiple picks spread over weeks rather than days. Fractured sandstone over Lambert Shale yields Chardonnay that is steely and structured with persistent citrus and mineral flavors.
Winemaker Notes
The 2021 vintage was a welcome change from the catastrophe of 2020, which saw devastating fires throughout the region. Sugar and acidity levels tracked well and while crop size was shorter than we would prefer, we were able to harvest perfectly ripened fruit at a reasonable pace. The resulting wines have excellent balance and intensity. In comparison to our most recent vintages, there are some similarities to 2019 in that the wines possess great elegance and site specificity.

95 Points - Nervy, precise, and Chablis-like, the Langley Hill Chardonnay shows stone-like minerality and stunning purity. It’s nuanced yet has excellent depth of mineral-accented citrus with lemony acidity on a satiny palate. At just under 6 acres, Langley Hill is the winery’s largest parcel of Chardonnay.
