2019 South Slope Cabernet Sauvignon
Vineyard
The vineyard was densely planted in the year 2000 at elevations reaching 2300 feet above sea level, 17 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The heavily fractured, vaqueros sandstone soils and unique mountain micro-climate produce singular, deeply concentrated wines that demonstrate the power and elegance of the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation.
Winemaker Notes
The 2019 vintage will go down as a classic year in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Unsettled weather in the spring resulted in poor flowering, and lower yields in some blocks. The summer was warm, but not oppressive. The lack of extreme heat events was a welcome change. Harvest began in mid-September, finishing up in mid to late October. The wines are concentrated with a fine balance of structure and fruit intensity. Site expression seems amplified; low yields and moderate temperatures often lead to some of our most singular and terroir driven wines.

Other Notes
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon South Slope Gist Ranch Estate is a potent, brooding wine endowed with terrific energy and tons of class. A burst of dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, black pepper and incense make a strong first impression. Dark and imposing, the 2019 is endowed with serious intensity and yet is also remarkably well-balanced. Cabernet Sauvignon can be magical in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Lexington's 2019 is super impressive. - 94 points. Antonio Galloni, Vinous
