2019 Gist Ranch Estate 'Alma' White
Vineyard
The vineyard was densely planted in the year 2000 at elevations reaching 2300 feet above sea level, 17 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The heavily fractured, vaqueros sandstone soils and unique mountain micro-climate produce singular, deeply concentrated wines that demonstrate the power and elegance of the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation.
Winemaker Notes
The 2019 vintage will go down as a classic year in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Unsettled weather in the spring resulted in poor flowering, and lower yields in some blocks. The summer was warm, but not oppressive. The lack of extreme heat events was a welcome change. Harvest began in mid-September, finishing up in mid to late October. The wines are concentrated with a fine balance of structure and fruit intensity. Site expression seems amplified; low yields and moderate temperatures often lead to some of our most singular and terroir driven wines.

Other Notes
The 2019 Alma is a Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend from Fogarty's Gist Ranch property. Readers will find a potent, phenolic wine full of hillside character. Strong mineral and savory accents, along with the weight of Semillon all shape the 2019. Apricot, orange peel, dried herbs and mineral undertones lend quite a bit of textural richness throughout. This distinctive white has a ton to offer. - 93 points. Antonio Galloni, Vinous
