2014 Gist Ranch Estate Cabernet Franc
2014 Cabernet Franc from Gist Ranch Estate is super-expressive. The wine varietal aromatics, exotic spice notes and a real sense of mountain structure.
Vineyard
The vineyard was densely planted in the year 2000 at elevations reaching 2300 feet above sea level, 17 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The heavily fractured, Vaqueros Sandstone soils and unique mountain micro-climate produce singular, deeply concentrated wines that demonstrate the power and elegance of the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation. The Gist Vineyard is farmed to organic principles with an emphasis on “Living Soils” and bio-diversity.
Winemaker Notes
2014 was the second consecutive drought vintage featuring one of the earliest harvesting in our 40+ year history. Early bud-break and flowering combined with relatively warm weather throughout the growing season led to the rapid development of sugar and flavor in many vineyards. Consequently, we had tremendous ripeness at relatively low sugars which produced wines with bright acidity and ample structure.

Lexington's 2014 Cabernet Franc Gist Ranch Estate is terrific. Varietal aromatics and a real sense of mountain structure underpin this super-expressive Cabernet Franc.
